Kergunyah Landcare

The Kergunyah area was the birthplace of Landcare in the Kiewa Catchment. Kergunyah Landcare Group is committed to nurturing and learning about our land and water and all the life that it sustains.   The group undertakes activities on private land (e.g. revegetation and fencing) and public land (e.g. Kergunyah Streamside Reserve). They also undertake community education events to help increase awareness of biodiversity and sustainable practices (e.g. crayfish and platypus events).

For further information on the Kergunyah Landcare Group, its projects or membership please contact the Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups facilitator on facilitator@kclg.org.au / 0407 227 814.

Projects

Biodiversity walks

On the first Saturday of each month, the group hosts a public event for anyone interested to stroll down the same patch of road, recording the birdlife, sharing knowledge, and getting to know our wildflowers, fungi, grasses, insects, and trees.

The biodiversity recorded through these walks has been amazing, and the group encourages everyone to come along.

Check out our Get Involved page to find out when the next event is running.

Kergunyah Wetlands

The group has undertaken a survey and restoration of the remarkable Kergunyah Wetlands, located adjacent to Kergunyah Road, to enhance, promote, and preserve the site’s biodiverse flora and fauna.

Kergunyah Streamside Reserve

This reserve is located in the heart of Kergunyah.  Over recent years, the Landcare Group and Reserve Committee, supported by funding from the North-East Catchment Management Authority, undertook restoration works to improve public access and to enhance the riparian zone through revegetation, fencing, and weed control.

This reserve can be accessed by everyone off Kergunyah Road, just past the bridge on the Kiewa River.
